The Rainbow Coast as the southern part of the state is referred to is an attraction to many. There is the temperate winter weather with our warmer coastal conditions generally free of the inland frosts. Some people refer to this as our 'soft winter'.
In summer the temperate conditions see warm days but cool evenings. Even on the days temperatures get into the high 30s C you can expect a comfortable night's sleep.
A wide range of National Parks are also found in the shire.
Travelling through some of the National Parks is the Bibbulmun Track. Named after an aboriginal tribe of the south west this walking trail offers short, half day, day and longer walks along scenic, specially chosen tracks. Some sections go through forests, some over coastal dunes, along old railway tracks and up prominent hills. The really adventurous undertake the nearly 1000km journey from Kalamunda to Albany along the full length of the trail.

There are beaches: from surf suitable for boards, to sheltered inlet and coastal rock pools providing safe havens for children. Plus the challenge of casting a line to see what you can catch. The beaches and rocks provide some excellent fishing spots if you don't have a boat.
Within the town are several parks. Berridge Park on the river banks gives you a place to enjoy lunch or buy an icecream and relax in the shade.
